Male Elders would leer at Girl children,
nursing Mothers , vulnerable Widows , voluptuous Matrons
----they need Protection !
Men proclaimed
all the while ruthlessly punishing , oppressing
twisting Womankind
with
Traditions , Culture , Inhibitions , Rituals
all curiously designed to hold down
the ' weaker' Gender
Institutions were skewed in favour of Males
Bias began in infancy itself where the
birth of a Boy was celebrated &
that of a Girl was mourned .......
Brahmins , Bishops ...Rabbis , Ayatollahs
Temples , Churches , Synagogues , Mosques
all were equally United in
oppressin' Womankind ...
even Women themselves collaborated in pullin'
down their own Sex !?
Non-compliance to Societal norms led to Labels --
Bitch
Witch
Evil
Slut
whip her hard on Sinful butt
Punishment rained down on such few hardy souls
Torture ,Rape , Land-grabbing
were a few of the Patriarchal goals ....
Burning at the stake
or on Husbands' funeral pyre
being Stripped in Public Parade
Shaving her head
Starving to submission
applying Thumbscrews
to sign Confessions
or sign away Wealth
to Male family members ......
the list could go on ...& on
Political Poetry is unpopular
Protestin' Poets even more so
my Poetry too stinks
but the sheer scale of
Open Injustice
forced my Pen to react
I will close with the
Proverbial Silver Linin'
even in the depths of Degradashun'

maybe inspite of Oppression

Queens
Pirates
Tyrants
Empresses
Despots
arose whether
in Nigeria
or China
England or
Russia ........

Evita
Phillipines or Argentina
proximity to Powerful Males
granted Gender Immunity
to a Chosen Few
Daughters , Widows , Mistresses , Wives
scheming sharp brains ,
skillful wielders of poisoned knives !!
