As the new dawn breaks
I open only one blue eye slightly
To peek at the sun, so bright and inviting, streaming into the stone opening
I shut both eyes tight and whisper to no one
…This day I will go on without you, it is time…
I start to stir
First one wing and then the other
letting out the curl
Lowering my head to feel the stretch in my spine
Reaching my arms forward and letting my strong wings open full and beautiful
Time to stand…my long legs, weary and not wanting to take the weight
But giving in to their existence
As I rise…The warm sun stabbing my cold breast
I sway my powerful silvery white fans
And walk out of the cave
to the edge of the cliff
I look out over the ocean…smiling at the dolphins playing below
Time to finish my journey…home
Three fast steps, and I am falling to ecstasy
One quick beat and I am on my way.
