What kind of world is it
when everyone gets hurt in it?
All those good intentions
that go awry.
How many say,
"I would rather die"?

Even though
I try to do
the best I can
those who call me friend
get the worst of it in the end.

You hurt yourself,
the one's you love,
everyone.

Why can't I withdraw?
Step back?
Bow out?
And let the world turn
without me.

It wouldn't bother me
to leave the world be.
To watch it pass me by
without reaching out to join it.

But there are those people
who won't let you go.
They keep you attached
to the world you know.

And I am thankful
for all of them.
Where would I be
without them?
Not alive.
Not a part of the world.
Alone,
but I live.
