At Black Barrow we made our stand
As monsters stretched across the land
Their wretched numbers beyond compare
Our hearts were seized by black despair
But courage did our king command

A hundred to one we were outmanned
By blackest magic by blackest hand
Our foe would meet their ending there
At Black Barrow

A sacrifice was Victory’s demand
It was magic we could not understand
A terrible price to answer our prayer
The holy light did fill the air
Our enemy banished by God’s command
At Black Barrow

(Dedicated to Brent Weeks, author ofThe Night Angel Trilogy)
