At Times
We all feel like some motherless child
Though we smile through our tears
We reminisce on years
Lived in varying depths of fear
Fretting about the tenuous grasp

Our flesh had on the wounds
That one day
May just snap back
Open and expose the whole world of sorrows
Hurts and pains you carried with you
At all times

As I and we worried
Snatched up the mask you wore
Made it my own and swore
That the laughs and silent tolerance
Would bury the scars deeper than that
That mask concealed the nature of this and that

I can never be thankful enough
For the life you gave me
I know it to be true
I know the roads been rough
For you Momma, and
At Times
It’s been rutted and too long
For me too

It’s hard for either of us to
understand sometimes
Why we do, what we do
Never quite knew what to do
When no one else was reacting
I felt I had to
I guess it and I never really, got through
Guess I may not have understood then
Maybe I now do

At Times
It’s hard to forgive
But I try to
We are forever entangled
Us and We
Me and You
Through the same blood lines
And the same kind
Of regretful servitude

Self aversion, sacrifice
We tell our selves that
Every thing is gonna be alright
Yeah evry lil ting
Gon be aright
Make it through this dark night
Come trough to a new light

All happiness
Shining and bright
When the time is right
When the truth is
We just might
Have to find some middle ground
To walk upon
At Times

Some bits of balance
For the tears
A moment of peace
To soothe the fears
Wisdom to smooth the years
We do exist to speak
Not only to hear

We are worthy of what we seek
We and I, you and me
Nearer my God to thee
And we
Choose to symbolically be
A willing participant in this poverty
We must admit the delight we find

At Times
To simply embody need
Fly free in the realization that we
You with you and I with me
Are at liberty to pursue these
Unconstrained and abandoned
To innate desire
Maybe you will
I know that I will require

Fulfillment of mind, body and soul
I will question the tales of old
Instead of doing as I’m told
I will embody gratitude even if
At times it’s not instantly
It’s eventually
I promise as much to you as I do to me
To just Be

Captures the imagination and thought provoking

I can empathize with you on the complexity of the relationship between a mother and her adult offspring

this is excellent!

I like so much about this, especially the musical "quoting" to me that really gave it a great beat/boost/rhythm and connection. Love it.
