you were singing your own lullaby

awake
the horn blowers shout for you
they bring down these fortress walls you hid behind
weeping over shredded thoughts too sad to sing
this hiding does not wisely keep you

there comes a time for silence cease
to take air alone and grab at freedom when you see it
oh rise above these crumbling walls
do fly above those jarring trumpet calls

awake
shout with those horn blows
the time has come to claim these spaces
open air, to wing and you flying breath it

boldly scrabble over that decay in which you wallow
claw your way up rubbles mount with lusty shout
i am climbing, hear me i am climbing yet

when you reach the top of wreckage heap
your fingers bloodied, muscles ached with trembling legs
which make you feel the ground beneath you shakes, view this

open expanse before you
green under blue she calls to you
oh nature begs you sing and fly away from this dark place
still your legs, banish ache to memory
see that dear potential in this freedom
rise up to your full height and feel it

open your arms and reach deep across this blue that calls you
embrace as lover this luscious existence
scream it out until your dying breath
i am singing, hear me, i am singing yet

when that mood does strike to fly toward that endless blue
feel the wind as it pulls across and lifts you
oh, leap with purpose you wondrous thing
you streaming light of impassioned life
