I suffer all the pains of love

- feeling you moving away from me,
out there with the kids and the shopping,
with your harried, recalcitrant life,
against whose stubbornness,
you have become stubborn, enduring

and knowing, as I do

- that the chains which bind you to him
are far too strong for me to break

and tasting

- the salt tang
of swallowed tears.
