So now,
I sit and wait
for the axe to fall.

Never again
to run my fingers
through your hair,
feel your shoulders
under my fingers,
tension melting
at my touch.

No more hugs
that make my muscles clench;
no more quivers
of your lower lip;
no more stolen kisses
in a hidden corner.

I will hold
to the times past;
memories strong,
passions remembered,
treasures cherished.

No one
can take that away from me.
Not even you,
not even this
doubting,
dreadful day.

Even dreams must be awoken from…
