LEMONIA (F)LEAP EDELTRAUD => THROUGH NEED AND DECENCY => INTER-TEMPORAL : ANY REBETIKO WILL DO

TAVERNA "ORAMA"
MONDAY EVENING
30/6/2014

BABE

Six hours I am on the stand by,
calling your number now and then,
why the fuck don't you reply,
you psychobitch of northern den?

I just give up, I check my tuning,
the night is sweet, the gig is on,
three days young moon, for you I'm crooning,
off goes the ringer on my phone.

Twenty five minutes playing,
"Any Rebetiko Will Do,"
the truth of what I feel is saying,
the truth about me and you.

The first song set is now finished,
nine times you've called in this short time,
my anger feels somehow diminished,
I can enjoy my jin and lime.

I think of you another way,
my heart is melting as I do,
heaven and hell of Avra Bay,
"Any Rebetiko Will Do."

So, while I'm trying to underrate you,
nine times you tried to be in touch,
I can't explain, meaning to hate you,
why I love you so much.

I call you back, I hear your voice,
my words are coming out confused:
"How are you babe?" fucking word choice!
this word, two years now, I have not used.

Calling you "babe", such wishful thinking,
slip of the tongue, think what you will,
you take it easy, without blinking,
it's understood: I love you still.

Exchanging news and saying "Good night",
as if we were trusting old friends,
maybe we are, missing the light,
driving blind to love's dark ends.

So let it be, I'm glad you're fine,
I'll call again when I find time,
these countless stars above that shine,
stand witnesses to this single rhyme:

Good night, baby, still I love you,
useless to hide myself from you,
crazy you drove me and I drove you,
any rebetiko will do!

Love this

take on soured love with a sickly-sweet aftertaste.
