Back-handed schoolyard picture –
She pulled the flesh into a blood-red gash
I’d gladly have inflicted
But then I knew I wouldn’t dare
- Ever -
To do the stabbing,
Her doubtful pride and lack of warmth,
My shame contending for
Dominion in my mind.

I see so many possibilities here

Whatever the intent, there's not even lust in this encounter, is there? You use such words as "gash", "inflicted", and "stabbing" to depict an aborted sex act that must have been unpleasant, to say the least. And he's feeling ashamed, to boot! It's not just youth that's wasted on the young, is it, and you show that very well here!
