I took a couple of my pupils
To a ballet: Merry Widow
At Istanbul Cultural Center.

When dancers appeared on the stage
The tight outfit of male dancers
Exposed their sex organs
When they stretched their legs up
My pupils began to giggle.

We have a state opera in Istanbul
Staging classical works for decays.

Since 80’s, its existence disputed
Among city fathers
-Do we need a opera house?
-Why not use the building for another purpose?
-It would be a nice hotel.

Mayor of the time said in papers
-Ballet makes me think about sex
It is a shameful activity.

The chairman of the opera replied
-Mr.Mayor is confusing opera with pole dancing
Ballet is a delicate art
Not a sex show.

Hasan Ali Tokuqin
