I've never
dealt well with
winter.

When your window becomes
like a screen to look out of
stop.
when your coat is dry
from under use
stop.
When your groceries run thin
and you stop going
to work
and when your room
is more recognizable
then your face
stop.
winter has you.

Spring on the other hand
is allways upon us
before we realize.
with all your friends
so suddenly back to work
It's the empty's thinning out
the hayze clearing
it's the way a smile
on someone's face
from a good meal
after a long day
makes even the hungry
warm.

My father used to say
   "work pays not only
    the bills,
    but also
    the devil."
It's as if the length
of a day
and the temperature
measures how long
your wait is
for more beer
and,
how warmly you receive it.
