her beauty was like a beacon
calling us to crash like ships against the rocks of futility
yet we sailed on in naive surrender
to her radiant shining light

and we heard the voices screaming
as they wrecked and drifted away
lost to her charms and essence
but we ruddered on to our destiny

for we were different
and not subject to such guiles
men of strength and passion
bound to rescue her wounded soul

and she smiled and laughed
as we neared the edge
and fell apart as all men do
in the darkness of her light no more
