It was painstakingly familiar..
Lying on the floor..temples pounding..
It wasn't the first time..
I lay still..maybe you'd think I was dead..
Maybe you'd stop..maybe you'd pause..
So many maybe's..and no definates..
I always came back..
Tattered soul and a heart left wanting..
We stood there..in the middle of the street..
I held my chest..
breathing heavily against the autumn air
You smirked and looked me over..
Soaked to the skin..rain dripping from every pore..
It poured that night..but I never noticed..
I begged and pleaded with you..
all I got was a slap in the face..
You kissed me a final goodbye and headed off into the fog.
I wondered at that moment..if I was better off..
better off without you..better off alone..
I lost you that night..
I lost you..but I found a part of me that was broken..bruised..
I picked my heart up from a dark place inside..polished it..
I locked it in chains..held it hostage..
I vowed never to release it..
You broke me..a hundred times..
not anymore..
