Gaze into the lens,
tell me again, you know
that I was frustrated,
that I was impatient,
and that you will break me again
with just a smile into camera
and another incoherent answer
about what I never spoke aloud.

In concert, our thoughts
tripped over one another,
beyond dissonant treble
and discordant bass -
you looked right into the camera
and the smile assumed greater meaning
than anyone would ever believe,
as all my mistakes you acquired.

Even as you smiled,
I waited for that blow
to interrupt the stream
of this live feed
into my dreams,
for the heartbreak
that has become
routine.
