Footsteps echo hollow footsteps
up, up, up the long sky way
cold permeates the space
rolling like a slow fog
when suddenly – heels snap
on icy terrazzo, the black aggregate
pooled in sparkling crystalline.

Through doors, huddled lines and taxi stands
as whispers freeze on lips
almost spoken, then forgotten
in shouted white clouds – a destination
Crystal City, its glittering spires.
Between the glazing distant views
across a steamy Potomac; a dome

alone slips from view when another glimpse
singular in stature – a monument thrusts
upward from the circle, yet fades
into the mist: cooling towers and cars.
Brakes squeak to stop and turn
from warmth, the day blurs to gray
and the first hint of snow flurries.

A revealing look at a planned ride from D.C.,

Across the Potomac to Crystal City.

{though I always thought the place was rather sterile}

you got lost in

stringing clever description together, and forgot that the purpose of a poem is to convey meaning.

I listened

I listened twice, I think you drew the poem from a picture or sight? I am unsure of the exact point of the poem? SNOW?
