BEFRIENDING THE MONKEY

I’m a lonely man
A man in a cage
Yes, a lonely soul
Full of rage.

For I’ve felt the monkey
As he rides my back,
Just look at my arms
You’re sure to find his track

Yes, all thru the days
And all thru the nights,
Only the dope fiend knows
How the monkey bites.

He gripped with claws
Deeply under my skin,
For now it had started
The pain would begin.

For with teeth of steel
He’ll chew on my spine,
You’d think with this torture
From dope I’d resign.

But there’s always that craving
You feel to the bone,
For once you’ve befriended the monkey
He’ll never leave you alone…BWL
