The flickering of the candles

Is the only movement in the room

Before I enter

The music undulating with the flame

I enter behind you

The veil sliding over your face

For a moment

As the rhythm begins

In my hips

The beat as old as the sands

Of the desert where it began

My zils ring out

The mating call that bred a nation

The sons and daughters of Ishmael

Watch us over the centuries

As I whirl for you

Dropping my veils

One by one

Until I fall

At your feet

And look up into

Your gypsy eyes

The eyes

That possess

My soul
