You say things to me
That tear me open,
Gentle words
With ruthless effect.
You strike me harder
Than I can even express
With the light stroke
Of your literate phrases.
Words that hurt me,
In what they mean to me.
These soft things you say
Make me wonder if you know
How deeply you are marking me.
How badly these things scar
Into tender soft places of who I am.
I can hardly bear
The beauty
Of who you are.
