Between adobe walls,
where the brick alley
flows into the dust
drifting on heat waves,
a mirage in silk
blown against her torso
by the afternoon breeze;
the sun setting as a halo
illuminates the space
between her slender legs,
while fine hair drifts
to caress her lips.
Her tiny phone pressed
to her face she looks
at me and turns away.
A gust funnels through
the narrow empty way,
whips hot dust across
my vision sweeping her
into disappearing desert.
