Bitter Gold Heart

How can someone, a man
a father treat the better part
of them, their little girl
with such disdain.
How could a father betray
that trust, the trust
of a baby girl that counts
on them to be there when
they cry or fall, to help
pick themselves back up
How could a man harm
that little girl that is
in his daughter, to make
her feel less than special
less than perfect, less
than the loveliest thing
on this world.
How could a man change
that girl into something
less when she could be
so much, with just his
love and just some kindness
How could he turn that
wonderful golden heart
of his daughter into
a bitter gold heart.
