Black face, my face
What do you see?
The color of my skin
Or do you see me?
Look in it and gaze at
The wonders it beholds.
Look deeper into it
And discover stories untold.
Do you see me as a slave,
Working my fingers to the bone.
Or do you see me as I sit
High on my throne.
Look at me closer to see where I?m from.
I come from Kings and Queens and rulers among.
I possess riches untold and a beauty so deep.
Wonder in amazement at the secrets I keep.
I?m not your slave, your maid or your boy.
I?m not someone you can treat just like a toy.
Respect me with honor, with fanfare and grace.
There?s royalty in my blood that you can?t erase.
You?ve kicked me and beat me but still I rise,
I refuse to submit or meet my demise.
Bow down to my past and to all of my race.
There is pride, there is honor within my
Black Face.
