“Body of Work”

Head games,
When a mind plays tricks on a body.
I wake up thinking I feel her arms around me
But there is no one there
Only Shadows
And the Sweet Realization
That she is in my heart
Always.

Eyes too blind to see,
That there is life and beauty all around
So oblivious to all that is lovely,
And hiding behind the rose colored glasses
Of what we think is there,
But isn’t really there at all.

Hands to scarred to heal;
A touch does wonders
Unless from a hand that’s rough
Scarred and Blistered
By the baggage that they carry around
So wanting to touch and hold
But fearing rejection.

Two hearts pounding;
One made for love
One for hate
One to flutter tender
The other to pound irate!
Two hearts beating
Inside one man
Beating! Forever beating!
Pounding the soul into oblivion.

Legs made for walking
Or just for running away
To scared to face reality
Yet brave enough to say,
ENOUGH!
It’s better off this way.
I’d rather walk away happy
Than to be miserable.

Body of Work
A body needs work
When the pain is deeper than flesh
A man must build his life
On what he knows is best.

Welcome to Lit

With all these submissions.

A couple suggestions here:

First, try submitting one a day,

This will give your verse a fair hearing;

So many at once will likely get passed over.

Second, on this piece, could be tightened up

Perhaps by dropping a couple strophes;

The 4th & 5th, perhaps.

Now I'll read the rest of your submissions.
