Tick, tack, tick, tack…Boom
That's the horrible noise of doom

After hearing that petrifying sound
An explosion pushes me to the ground

Time slows down until it almost stops
Landing on the floor, my eardrum pops

The air gets knocked out of me
And for one moment I can't see

Horror strikes in all our hearts
As we get hit by exploding parts

Bleeding, in shock lying on the floor
The blast even blew out a steel door

There is no pain, my body is numb
My right hand is missing the thumb

Shattered glass is strewn everywhere
With broken eyes a man does stare

In my dirty face, streaked with tears
Sirens get louder as a fire truck nears

Frightened people scream and groan
As the pain hits me, I hear myself moan

Seeing the dust slowly settling down
Help arrives as a firefighter with a frown.

The shock is etched in his smudged face
He seeks to find a way through the maze

Behind him more and more men appear,
I try not to panic when help is so near.

He knells down right next to a little boy,
Who is still holding on to his favorite toy.

Gently he closes the child's big blue eyes,
While holding the lad the tough man cries.

Two additional firefighters arrive at the site,
As the rest of the crew against the fires, fight.

One of them comes over and checks on me,
The other talks to the man, handing him a key.

A bright light appears right behind the lad
His spirit disappears in it, he's no longer sad

At this moment nurses and doctors rush in,
Struggling to safe lifes, trying so hard to win.

I am put on a stretcher, carried out of the debris.
Gazing down on my body, as my soul is set free.
