BREAKING BUD

Amid the shadows of this rosy bed,
A new flower opens to the world,
It's heart a deep and carmine red,
It's petals pallid pink, unfurled.

Comes the bee, intent
Upon the treasure held within:
Lured by the petals' scent,
And the nectar promised him.

But in his search for nectar
Where none have sought before;
Reaching that rarest treasure;
The bee will sting the flower.
