I know it isn't all your fault
The blame's partly mine, it's true.
What did I think was possible
Between me and a man like you?

I desperately wanted a friend in my life,
I wasn't discreet, read too much into you.
When you smiled at me with your crocodile smile
Your reptilian heart seemed so warm to me too.
What else was there to do
But fall in love with you?

I believed everything that you told me.
Now I know that I heard what I wanted to hear
But what does that say about you?
To lie with such convincing skill
When you know that none of it's true?

Whenever I tried to withdraw
You'd approach and begin to pursue.
I thought that meant you cared about me
But you're a collector, just wanted to add me
To your female retinue.

I would wait for you to call me
And the more I waited, the more I hated
Or thought I hated you.
Then the phone would ring and I knew
I would have to give you one more last chance
Before I could say we were through.

I gave you plenty of rope
And you fashioned it into a noose
Strung me along till I was blue in the face
Still I tried to love you.

You told me what I wanted to hear
I convinced myself it was true.
Though stupid I was, I'm stupid no more
And now I bid you adieu.

So now at last it is over
And finally we're through
I've replaced you with a prettier face
That tells better lies than you.
