Bring Back The Days

Bring Back The Days, Those Days Are Gone

Bring back the days when gas was cheap,
When homes were built better to last
And oceans were filled deep with fish.
Now everything comes from China
And I have no job, work or pay.
Credit card collectors call me
Threatening to lock me away,
Unless I pay their sky high fees.

It started with Ronald Reagan
When he opened our free trade doors.
Now our jobs are in India
And our clothes made in Sri Lanka.
When fish and beef were good to eat
And coffee was two bucks a pound,
There's too many Starbucks around.
Everywhere banks and gas stations

But without customer service,
Pump your own gas and ATMs.
Bring back the days of slower times,
When I could afford to go on
A long vacation to unwind.
Now I can't afford anything,
Either I buy prescription drugs
Heat my home, gasoline or food.

Bring back the days before Gulf War,
A time when we had Twin Towers,
Before Al-Qaeda, bin Laden,
Saddam Hussein, War in Iraq,
And the recession that caused my
Depression, why I need Prozac
And Viagra should I want sex.
Oh, my aching back, I'm so old.

Bring back the days life was better,
Lana Turner in tight sweaters,
Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield,
Sophia Loren, Liz Taylor,
Natalie Wood, Connie Francis,
With Debbie Reynolds, and Elvis.
Frank Sinatra knew what to do,
Old mister blue eyes told the truth.

Where did those days go? They flew by.
Look at me now, ready to die,
Like all my friends gone before me
Viet Nam, heart attacks, car crash,
Suicide, tired of living
In a world like this, nothing fits
And it's all out of my control.
What do I do? Where do I go?

To find peace, if only I could,
I would bring back those days when life
Was better like at Senior Prom
With Mary Lou in the back seat
Kissing, hugging, and touching her.
Oh, what a real treat that was then,
Only now with STDs and
AIDS, must wear condoms for safe sex.

Bring back the days, those days are gone.
Internet, cell phones, and iPods,
New technology outdates me
Outsourcing jobs to Mercury.
Rich get richer and poor poorer
Without middle class, USA
Becomes one more third world country
That's what the Republicans want.
