A harsh goodbye precludes
a real hello
and a chapter ends unwritten

Some things in life are gone
before they can be grasped
and cherished

A flower blooming in reverse
to close around itself in protection
stealing away from the light

A world of choices unmade
by one choice
that cannot be unmade

The right choice
the wrong choice
never knowing

Choosing fear
choosing the safe path
choosing to live in the dark

Without him
bereft of him
both hurting and too late
to fix it

He will never know
never see
how close I came to
giving him me

How the fear fought and won
the trust shattered inside
because I needed him
to be the strong one
and he left it up to me

How could he know that
he was all I ever needed
and that the words
stuck in my throat

Alone and dead
broken flower in the dark
yearning for the light
that she banished
