Burn Behind

Nothing more left to say
You ruined the silence yesterday
I don't know why you keep coming around
We'd be way too complicated fodder for this
Small-minded town

All over again
We dance and we fight
As I plead for understanding
While you manipulate
laughing, dissolving, vanishing
into the wet darkness
hidden in the folds of forbidden night

like a thoughtless footprint on your home shore
It doesn't make a difference if
I love you anymore

Nothing changes with those words,
Feelings
     Realizations
                      Regrets                                           Hurt
front-page news splashed
A saddening scandal of the benign,
All I have built up will alight and
Burn behind us

So much I cannot throw away
I don't expect you to understand
demand respect and obey

Let me do it my way
It might be brutal, sad, unfulfilling
But so much better
Drawing out the expectations of time
As we burn into ruin and forever keep you as mine
