I clutch it to my chest
a secret
(a treasure)

Cupped between my hands
(careful when you touch it
you could hurt it)

It’s beautiful
It’s mine
I will feed it
Nurture it
(love it)

I will name it
It will be mine
I will watch it eat everything in its path
Leaving ragged holes in patchy spots
Leaving everything it touches tattered
I will watch it grow
Feed
Become hideous
I will watch it curl up into something ugly
Dead

I will save it
I will keep it warm
I will treasure it for months
And someday, it will emerge
Beautiful
I will set it free
The thing I held on to
(clutched possessively)

For what feels like forever
(only a few months)

Even free, it will be my secret
My treasure
My rape.
