When the idea came, we were having dinner
on a Sunday morning like any other.
You told me it was a perfect summary
of everything we mean when we're together,
and I sat there quiet and listening,
encased in Daisy Dukes and a very warm sweater.
This is us, you said in all earnestness--
Cheap pizza and expensive champagne,
burlap underwear and silk wristbands,
soft caresses of rage and lovingly giving pain,
hiding like vampires from the sunlight
but walking naked in the rain.
You looked to me for understanding, and
I nodded in agreement, because I've always known it's true.
the masochist must also be a sadist to the core,
and though it looks like anger, love is all we do.
Nobody's life is always hearts and flowers,
and sometimes loving leaves you black and blue.
Fantasies can be lived, paradoxes are nothing new
The lady that you need must also be a whore
and that's how I get inside of you.
The joke says screw the roses and bring me the thorns,
but at the bottom, that's what we are--
two blonde haired blue eyed angels with horns.
