How can a mother or father find happiness when
Their child's life just came to a tragic end?

I guess all they can do is think of the past
And not about what they said last.

We all think our kids will be here forever,
And that we will always be together.

The number of children's deaths outweigh the adults',
And no one admits to their crimes or faults.

These kids are our only link to the future,
But yet we limit theirs.

We try to protect them from all the troubles in the world,
And all this does is make them ignorant of the real world.

We let them watch violence on TV and they see it in our homes,
But violence is one of the actions we don't condone.

Because we expect them to know right from wrong,
But they're the ones we blame when they are gone.

My only wish is that we could stop being blind with our eyes wide open
And do "something about all this," instead of just hoping.

~~

The innocence of childhood's not as innocent as it first appears; their manipulation of adults is Machiavellian in the extreme.
