I held on
When I was told I was a fool
And to let go
And you no longer loved me
The words hurt more than you can ever know
And yet I held on
Knowing that something must still be there
I wept and prayed
I begged
And kept on loving
Through rage, and hurt and deception
Driven to the edge of my sanity
I fought
Trying to hang on to the one fragile spark of what was left
Only to find you reluctant
A bird with broken wings cannot fly
It hops along on the ground-
And is a target for predators
My wings were broken- my spirit crushed
I had nothing
You could not even say whether or not you loved me
And I hurt
But I still loved you.
Anger and Rage pouring out
Jealousy
All because I loved you
And did not wish to share that with any other
He eased a wounded heart-
But as all drifters do
He fades away
The dreams are only that-
Things that never will be-
Because too much of me is tied up in someone else
You
Because my love for you has stood the test of time
It has stood more than most marriages would
And we are still together
And when given the choice
I still chose you
And would again
I love you
Heart and soul
