`Burry's Field' they called it when
In `26, came the `flying men',
First Francis Fisher came to stay
Flying an Avro 504.K.

In `33 `Cobham's Circus' thrilled the crowd,
And caused Canon Gay to cry out loud-
"no flying over the Priory on the Sabbath Day,
...folks cannot hear what I have to say".

In `34 they were given permission
To open `The Club' and charge admission.
The oddest plane that one could see,
Was the famous `Flying Flea'.
One was built by Mr Dean,
Who often flying it, was seen.

The War came in `39,
So too, the `Shadow Factory' assembly line.
The `Ambassador', `Seafire', `Oxford', and `Horsa' too
All built here, then away they flew.
Then `de Havilland's assembly line would flow
With the `Sea Vixen', `Venom', and `Mosquito'.

After `The Special Flight' had gone,
HMS `Raven' joined the throng.
The Fleet Air Arm had come to stay,
By what is now called `Airfield Way'.
But `46 was the year they chose,
When `RAF Christchurch' had to close.

There are houses now and lots of road,
But upon this land good men have trod.
Their skills were legend, their will was keen,
Without them, God-Knows what might have been.
It's all history now, but there are still some that know,
Of those hectic days, so long ago!.
