Cling Peaches

There's a heart here.
It beats softly but quickly,
Steady and thrilled,
Frightened to the core.

There's a shell around it.
She's rough and bitter,
Toughened to the world,
For they always throw her away.

But there is flesh around her.
He would bruise for her,
And cradles her in sweetness,
As a lover should.

I like

the metaphor you've used here. Reads like a peach (pardon the pun)
