Closed the Door

It gets easier with
every passing day
even though none of us
wanted it this way

We tried and tried
with all of our might
bet we failed like
a blind man's sight

The harder we held
the quicker it stopped
with constant tears
our dreams simply popped

I needed to be loved
to simply come first
I told you with my heart
and then it got worse

The gap began to widen
and nothing could bridge it close
eventually it ended
this is what I chose

It's not what I wanted
just what had to be
someone else will notice you
and how good you are, you'll see

I wish I could fill
all those promises I said
but now our time is done
our future is dead

I will always feel this hurt
and the loss I have inside
when I closed that door
part of me simply died
