No more shall I be the nice guy
That listens to their woes
That lets them feel the comfort of
My love wrapping their souls

No more shall I allow them in
Emotional Vampires all
Sucking away the good in me
Leaving my heart so cold

I tried so hard to be the good
And all it does is hurt
Tried hard to hold at long arms-length
But one got in, so bold

She pushed, she pulled; confused me so
She told me, “Run away”
I told her then, “You’re worth it, dear”
And let my arms enfold.

She warned twice more of pending doom
And gently pried away
My loving words that touched her mind
That never would “grow old.”

Now words exchanged have hurt us so
Some things left best unsaid
I watch in horror as this new love
Unravels instead of unfolds
