A condom is insufficient protection.
No babies or STDs are a plus,
but a condom will not protect you
from the acid spewing from a mouth
that kissed you,
or soften the blows coming from hands
that caressed you.
A condom will not protect you
from the endless, empty nights
longing for a lost lover’s arms
that held you in the darkness,
or the isolation of a long, lonely walk
in harsh, naked sunlight without
a soft hand cradled in yours.
The maker of a Condom for the Heart
could be richer than Bill Gates,
but who would want to use one regularly?
