Her tears fall like liquid glass
Shattering upon the stone floor
Her shawl enshrouds tightly
The warmth of her mortality

Pained by desire I watch
My wings lethargically unfold
Soft thick heavy
Like velvet wet with sweat

Her eyes lift languid to mine
Candle light dances slowly
Against glazed hollow orbs
Where her loathing reflects

Yet she will complete me
Satiate the thirst unquenchable
Replete my vital loss
Revive my weakening state

Scraping in the mildewed dust
Leathery wingtips track the floor
My shadow now dominates her
Engulfing the candle's luminescence

Silken lips purse in pleading
As I kneel beside her subdued form
Her body quivers softly
And I soothe her milky face

Her beauty consumes me
The same as a thousand years
She equates the antidote
For my imbibed poison

Still she vanquishes my love
With her eyes held to mine
Offering the gift of her essence
To my long weathered soul

Her head turns slowly
Tendons strain under china flesh
I take in the scent of her
My lips touch soft to skin

Her breath draws in sharp
As I hesitate in contemplation

Would I die for her love?
Can I afford this sacrifice?
How long will I survive
Without acceptance of her gift?

She is the light that takes me back
To that erstwhile blissful place
Before my world was tainted
When I need not kill to survive

And I know I cannot take her
My weapons begrudgingly retreat
As I rise over her surrender
I pivot on my heals and find the door

Sighing outside in the damp air
My breath clouds the starless night
In whispers I speak to her
Words she will never hear
