P:
Your view of love is an ephemeral thing
The stuff of novels and gold wedding rings
Where your blood is racing and your heart sings
A state that is far from the norm

I fear only this though it pains me to say
True love is a myth from a song that you play
And everyone tries to make real life that way
Hold the mirage through the eye of the storm

Though it hurts that my view of the world is so dark
You must admit in my words that the truth hits its mark
And if my view on this now seems quite desolate and stark
Its because love is truly that way

Tell me now, have you ever known love that is bliss
The touch of soft skin, the sweet taste of a kiss
That has not in the end looked exactly like this
A bad dream that is here now to stay

If true love exists in the way you describe
Its realm must be hidden from my searching eyes
Restricted to those in whose very soul lies
The "truth" that I just cannot see

This may sound as if I don't think much of love
Of the passion and joy that alights like a dove
It's not that I don't think love comes from above...
I just wish that for once it touched me
