sitting in the car
hadn’t gone very far
wife to the right
baby in sight
our six year old pup
in the back seat
my heart stopped
a shiver
there in the distance
walking away
I could only see your back
was it you?
black tights
short jean shorts
tight dark blouse
could it be you?
you held yourself the same
walked the same
those short boots
a scarf around your neck
but you couldn’t be
so young
our tryst was so long ago
it couldn’t be you

I didn’t realize you were sitting here too
somewhere in my forehead
still traveling with me
after all these years
and I still loved you
as I passed this figure from the past
I never looked back
