Ancient riparian
Sacred beast of Sobek from the Dark Waters
You lie submerged in sun-warmed hydroponic soup
Echoes of millennia coursing through integumentary senses
Augmenting poor submarinal sight with saline pressure
Mechanoreceptors reacting with lighting speed to potential prey.
We can think you slow
Basking on baking sands or estuary mudflats
Belly crawling your way to thermoregulation
Forgetting your bursts of energetic escapology if needs arise
Powered by undulating tail

Sunseeker,
Evolving amongst dinosaurs
We worry about caiman taxonomy
Wanting to commit you to satisfying subspecies
Based on the broadness and length of your snout
We have forgotten what it was to cover you with jewels
To offer succulent morsels to appease carnivorous appetites
Hoping you would grant fertility to our lands and people
Sharing our sarcophagi with your mummified remains
Taking our final journey together across the great divide
To be reborn, subsumed, conjoined
Both crocodile and man.

An interesting prose salute to the relationship between man and crocodile, though I must question that slew of multisyllabic words.

I can only say, I liked the poem as well as its content, I wrote a poem about ole Betsy... our neighborhood gator. Nice write, I enjoyed the read (~_~)
