Daddies need cuddles.

I run my fingers through my youngest daughter’s hair after returning from the hospital to see my wife.

‘Don’t cry,’ I say, ‘everything will be alright.’

My eldest daughter fusses over the dog.

“I have phone calls to make.’ I say as I lead the way back into the house.

Phone calls to make. Fight with my eldest over whether she should come to the hospital. Think of reasons for her not to. Never mentioning the main one.

Hearing my family’s voices.

‘Who is having the children? They mustn’t be left alone.’

‘Who will take care of your dog?’

Yes, I must be strong. Not show my fears. Be a rock for them. Calm their fears.

But sometimes Daddies need cuddles to.
