You’re the girl I should have married.
The beautiful girl next door.
The one who knew my mother, my sister, and was my friend.
When we were children,
Your smile haunted me.
I dreamed of you.
Before I knew the mysteries that draw men to women.
Even today,
Almost twenty years later,
I still think of you.
The tall, tomboyish beauty,
From Loge Haitienne in Cap-Haitien,
My Haitian Beauty,
I Shall Never Forget Thee.
