To follow this you need to first read 'HERSHEYTHETEMPTRESS' and her 'DEAR SANTA' poem. (19/12/06 in the new poems)
This is a response to it – I don't mean to be flippant, and did ask if she minded my response first. She liked it - Thanks Hershey

SANTA'S REPLY

Dear Hershey, I've tried and found alas
That keeping it simple makes me an ass.
I tried for world peace for all of mankind
But some weren't happy, so they wouldn't sign.

I found a little love for some of the kids,
But by trying to help them all, I tried, and I missed.
I found shelter for some homeless, to keep them warm,
But the heating broke in the heart of a storm.

I found some food for the hungry and cold,
But with today's corporations – it mostly got sold.
With the penniless I tried, but I'm no financial whizz,
And with duties and taxes it all seems a swizz.

For the battered women I gave them a means to get out,
But the government decided there was no political clout.
Like there is with the troops and what they are trying to achieve,
An Ideal for the countries, we are trying to relieve.

The suicide bombers – you can mix them in with hell,
For there's no reason or rhyme to the opinions they sell.
A cure for AIDS and cancer is out there somewhere
But the Elves say finding it is a real nightmare,

So I'll send an angel to you, to help with my work
Though the new working regulations make her look a jerk.
She can only help you at certain times,
So she'll have to pack up by 5.00pm, pull the blinds.

And as for the sting of lights around your heart.
Well the power companies….don't get me to start.
They're ripping us of by hiking up all the prices.
And fairy lights? no electrician? They say ban the devices

My work is stifled by the worlds contrasting laws,
And countries not co operating but snapping their jaws,
Wanting the best they can get for them selves.
Not co-ordinating together like my helpful elves.

I wish I could give what you want at Christmas time,
But I need help from the governments – a positive political sign.
I know what I'd do if I ever got to have my say,
But I guess for the time being all we can all do, is pray.

So remember, just now, we can't put everything right,
Wrap your presents and take one minute on Christmas night.
To think of all the people less fortunate than you,
I can't fill your request alone, it takes every one of you.

A tough role to play but a miracle worker Mr. Claus ain't,

And besides, on his world travels, he has to watch that he don't get shot or blown out of the sky!
