Death of the Past

Your eyes did shine when you where mine,
your touch so warm when you were near,
But despite your slow death I'm fine.
I guess I should have seen the sign,
that single you were depressive.
Your eyes did shine when you where mine.
You forced my life to realign,
to extent most unimpressive,
But despite your slow death I'm fine.
Your gravestone will become your shrine,
but It shan't become excessive.
Your eyes did shine when you where mine,
though you always were most benign,
our courting made you obsessive.
But despite your slow death I'm fine.
The memories are weak as vine,
our lost love affair regressive.
Your eyes did shine when you where mine,
but despite your slow death I'm fine.

Very moving.

I'd love to know the story behind the poem. Very wistful.
