He’s a clown
Dressed in a paper thin placebo of humanity
A denizen of an endless sea of the mindless and colorless
Sated by starvation of the soul
Life is stark
Blanched of all but the pale gray mists left
Behind by a falsely guileless charlatan
that seeks to leach the wonder from mortality
Bathing it in eternal mediocrity
Tears should burn
Screaming down the cheeks of the Universe
Instead marking deceptively benign salty paths
Because it is inexpensive and painless
Pain must be eradicated
It serves no fruitful purpose
Desensitization is the way home
Fade back
The trail is littered by the corpses of
Faith, Hope and Charity
Replaced by the Messiah,
Our Lord Legal Tender
Sitting back in His easy chair
Watching the ticker
Little green flickers of light
Sucking the host dry
Making sure little Johnny gets his due
While Janie files long, red acrylic nails
The only inkling of whole blood
For miles.
