Disenchantment

Riding the freight train
Of the multitude.
I take my leap, off conformity.
Rolling to the ground, I stand.
Brushing the dust away, as if it mattered,
Motion of habit.

Peering toward
Celestial wonders
The night sky offers to those who look;
A shadow appears,
Flickering in my vision.
Cold, dry air stirs my hair.

The images
Of last nights' dreams
Are recreated inside my mind,
Like a movie, vividly.
The shadow is my dream.
My Vampire clutches me to him.

His chest retains no warmth.
We fly, up to the constellations I so recently admired.
Freezing as the air drops in temperature
The farther up we go toward the clouds.
I am unafraid,
Though my mind tells me I should be.

Looking back,
The earth is so tiny,
Like an anthill, our huge cities.
So grand when you stand inside them,
So small when you are above them.
I dislike garbage.

My Vampire arrests our flight;
We sit upon a low cloud,
As if the cloud were solid
And gravity did not concern itself with us.
He pulls a bottle out for me, a pint from his cloak.
Dark Spiced Rum, to fortify and warm.

Astounded at his thoughtfulness,
I uncap and swallow.
Excellent, I think
As the fire disperses down, and inside.
Flushing my cheeks.
I offer my neck then, drink for drink.

A pint, just as he gave of me.
Not much to loose, I muse.
Ecstasy extends from the bite,
South on my body,
Moaning.
The stars, not so very excellent now.

We sit after, in comfortable silence.
Looking around us,
Me appreciating this sight,
I knew may never come again.
He, appreciating as if he found
Newness once again in the world.

Then we speak,
Haltingly.
His words arrest as
He tells me the meaning of life.
And why, really, it means nothing at all.
Circumcising my mind.

Amazingly, I cry.
Disillusioned.
He stares at my tears
Reflective pools in the night;
Exhibiting life, and the bitterness of it all
He wipes them away chilled hand.

He smiles, silently, as if its all right.
He kisses my cheek,
As the cloud parts; I fall.
Watching the earth become big,
Once again.
Not that I cared, really.

My dream flashes once again,
Illuminating life like
The flash bulb of a camera.
I understand for a moment only,
Then I am blinded by the after effects.
And before the earth
Slams into my body,

My knight in shining armor
Upon his white stallion
Appears.
Catching me with ease.
I stare,
At the helmet that covers his face.

The eyes stare back at me,
Haunting eyes.
They have stalked my dreams.
Chased me, Scorned me,
All of my life.
Beautiful eyes.

He flings me upon his horse,
Behind him.
I cuddle close,
Though armor doesn't inspire
Close contact.
I am at peace.

Where to? he asks of me,
I reply,
Neither their heaven, hell really.
Neither their hell, my heaven.
Here in between.
Singularly unique.
