"Close your eyes" he whispered, "dive in with me." Each day his electronic words soothed my fears and coaxed me closer to the edge.

So I closed my eyes and with trembling legs I teetered closer and closer until I dove in, breathlessly.

I dove down, down deep into the great crevasse of the mind.

But when I turned, somewhere between the shore and the sea, his words had lost their grip on me.

So now I ride the waves alone, their pitch and languid roll threaten to extinguish the flames that once burned so brightly just under the surface.

Strangers float by, lost on their own quest. I reach toward them and sometimes my fingers brush their's but no hand grips mine, not any more. I simply stretch my limbs and look to the sky.

What is this strange power that keeps me afloat? What is the power that keeps me floating here in limbo when all else in this world threaten to drag me down into the depths of the cold, inky black sea.

"Close your eyes" he said, "don't be afraid to dive in with me."
