Do you recall the fire hydrant?
How we kids would splash in the water,
cascading during the summer heat?
And lounge under the awning
on the green grocer's stand
across the street?
Until we were chased away,
darting between cars lining the curb,
the cabbies honking and swearing.
Or has it all been washed away by the years?
Childhood should always be with us...
in our eyes, our ears, our mouths.
You are everyone you have ever been.
